Jess and Byron had known each other growing up but never saw each other in “that” way. Until one day Byron texted my brother and said, Are you by any chance related to Jess Long? David called me into his room and asked if I’d ever heard of her to which I responded “No, but play along and say she’s our cousin!” which he did… after some backwards and forwards texts and mild confusion on Byron’s part, because Jess was convinced she didn’t have cousins called Christy and David, we told him were only joking and were keen to meet his new romantic interest soon. A few more texts followed as Byron told Dave all about her and then he said sent one that said “I’m going to marry her.” That’s when we knew he wasn’t playing games…
Fast forward a few days and Byron brought his new girlfriend to church. As soon as I spotted her I went up to say hi and introduce myself to which she replied “MY LONG LOST COUSIN!!!” We laughed and joked about our surnames and have nicknamed each other “Cuzzie” ever since.
A few months later Byron planned a proposal he knew would blow Jess away and he got all her nearest and dearest to her farm without her knowing. He took her for a drive down to the river and they hopped off the vehicle and he started playing her the song One Thing by One Direction. As they walked friends and family members started jumping out and surprising Jess as they sang along to One Thing. Jess squealed as her heart beat faster and her mind raced trying to place everyone and figure out what was about to unfold. After the “flash mob” surprise, Byron had a treasure hunt planned for Jess which lead her to the highest point of their farm where he got down one one knee and popped the question!
Jess and Byron both grew up living on farms so they had wanted to change things up and have an urban inspired engagement shoot which we managed to pull off pretty well!
